Help us raise $5500 to rebuild the sea turtle sanctuary before peak mating season begins in July!
La Tortuga Viva ("Living Turtle" in Spanish) is a turtle sanctuary in Juluchuca, Guerrero, Mexico. Every night, 365 days a year, dedicated volunteers from the local community patrol the beach front and safely transplant vulnerable sea turtle eggs to be safeguarded from predators in our hatchery. Every year, thousands of mama sea turtles come to nest on Juluchuca’s beach. Each mama can lay between 60-100 eggs several times in a season. Relocating nests into the sanctuary is crucial to the survival of these baby sea turtles.
The local volunteers are in need of a new sanctuary to better protect and conserve the endangered sea turtles. Hatcheries need to be moved every two years to prevent bacterial build-up and ant infestation, which can jeopardize the survival rate of the baby sea turtle. Building a new sanctuary is not easy or cheap and this why they need your help.
It will cost $5500 for supplies and labor in order to build the new sanctuary. Help us reach this goal before peak nesting season begins in July!
Your help is needed URGENTLY! Your donation will go to protecting the nests of these precious baby sea turtles. Just $10 will protect 5 baby turtles!
