The Sad Situation
Several states in the southern U.S. make up over half of the euthanasia rates for pets in the whole country, with Louisiana having the highest rate. Due to lack of resources, including resources for healthcare costs, some shelters will euthanize the pets they cannot take care of properly. If a dog is diagnosed with heartworm disease the chances for them making it to a forever family are slim to none.
Heartworm Takes Its Toll
Heartworm disease is a life-threatening illness that is transmitted from mosquitos to pets. Heartworm primarily affects the heart and lungs of the pet. However, heartworm disease can be cured when identified, and treated properly. When supporting this flight, dogs that are suffering from heartworm disease, are cared for before they board their flight, ensuring that affected dogs and healthy dogs get to their destination safely.
Make a Difference
Good Flights™ are here to save lives! These flights help pets in desperate need get to where they need to go to be safe and have a better chance at finding their forever family. Helping healthy and sick pets alike, this particular flight will help save many dogs from being put down due to lack of resources.
Save a heart, save a life.
Good Flights™ does good work as they transport animals that are in need of help get to a shelter that has the resources to care for them, and ultimately help them find their forever home. Whether the pet has a medical need that a shelter can't finance - such as heartworm disease - or has experienced a natural disaster and needs to be relocated due to safety concerns, these pets get to have the ride of their lives. These flights will ultimately rescue thousands of pets!
Shelter staff and volunteers work hard to ensure that pets are comfortable in their crates and loaded safely onto the plane. They are also there to help offload crates, and get each animal into the new shelter where they will stay until they move to their forever home. Due to the amount of flights that are conducted and the number of animals being transported, supplies are always in need. Just like people, pets can sometimes be anxious before, and during their flight, but when you support Good Flights™ and send care items, we can help ensure they are happy little passengers. Together we can not only rescue furry friends - we can provide a safe and comfortable trip for them too!
When I saw this cause "Save A Heart" at Greater Good. There is NO question that I will help. Poor dogs who are curable and should be cured and have the chance to be well and be adopted into loving new homes once healthy again. There is no excuse why they should not have a chance to continue with life. I can't see anyone putting down any animal who is curable and could be ready for adoption once well again. It is our duty as humans and God's stewards to care for His creatures. Doing the best we can for them that would include for their health for their well being and for their happiness in this world. As they give us unconditional love we too have the same responsibility. God Bless all these dogs to be on their way to health and happiness in loving new home. Thank you Animal Rescue for sharing with us this need.
I gave a 4 star rating solely because I do not see where cats are included in the rescue. I am sad and disappointed because they too deserve to be rescued and found loving homes.
The flights this month are only for dogs but our Good Flights program benefits both Dogs and Cats. We will be having Cat only flights as well throughout the year.
